That’s how you delete your messages and alerts on your chats on the Signal app for Android. As for iOS users, the process is pretty similar, but there are slight differences in the interface.

On the desktop app:
  1. Open one of your chat conversations on the left side of your screen.

  2. Browse your chat history, hover on one of the messages, and click More options (ellipsis).

  3. Choose whether to delete for you or everyone participating in the chat.

  4. Click Delete to confirm your decision.

These steps above works whether you want to delete messages on a group or private chats. Always remember that you can only delete a message for everyone within three hours after sending it.

Also, note that you can’t delete multiple messages on the desktop app. You can only remove them one by one. So if you want to delete a couple of messages simultaneously, try doing it on your mobile device.

How to delete a chat in Signal

While you can browse your messages and remove the ones you don’t like from time to time, you can delete your chat conversation in one go. In this way, you won’t bother selecting all the messages in the chat, saving you time and effort.

If you’re using the mobile app, start by tapping and holding on to one of your conversations on your chats list to select it. Once you do, tap the trash icon at the top of your screen to delete it.

As for the desktop app users, you must first open the chat you want to delete. After doing so, click the drop-down arrow on the upper-right corner and select Delete on the menu.

Please note that deleting a group chat this way won’t remove you from the group. You can still find and access the chat using the search bar at the top of your screen.

Also, it won’t remove someone from your contacts list. Deleting conversations will only clear all the messages on your end.
