How To Delay The Chat On Twitch
Last Updated: December 10, 2021
Do you want to give your moderators time to review the message before they appear on the chat? If so, you can set up a chat delay for regular users that participate in the chat on your channel. With the help of the chat delay, your moderators and mods can uphold the chat rules without having a noticeable impact on the experience of viewers.
Tutorial
In Twitch, channels have chats in which viewers can post messages to interact with the streamer or other people. Although we wish that chats can be wholesome at all times, there are times when people go out of line to insult others or post offensive remarks.
Thankfully, you can add moderators and bots to your channels to help you ban users and delete messages on your behalf. As such, you can focus on streaming and talking to your viewers without worrying about the trolls.
To help your moderators, you can add a slight delay to your chats. Combine this delay option with the “Slow Mode” feature, and your mods will have an easier time handling your messages.
How to add a delay to your Twitch chat
If you want to give moderators ample time to review messages on the chat, you can add a delay before the message appears to all viewers of your channel. In this way, your mods can delete offensive or rude remarks to you or to other users on the chat.
You can manage your moderation options by opening your Creator Dashboard and checking your Settings. Follow our quick tutorial below to learn how.
- Open the Twitch web client and sign in to your account.
- Click your profile icon on the top right corner and select the Creator Dashboard option from the menu.
- Open the navigation menu, tap the gear icon (Settings), and select Moderation from the menu that appears.
- Scroll down to the Chat options section and change the Non-Mod Chat Delay.
Although the recommended delay is two seconds, you can change it up to six seconds. Any message that a mod bans during this duration get removed from the chat entirely.
After adding a delay to the chat, you and your mods can remove messages before they appear in the chat. In this way, you can prevent other users from seeing offensive or rude remarks within the channel.
You can set up rules within the chat that the users need to accept before they can post. In this way, they can understand the consequences of their offensive actions beforehand.
Non-Mod Chat Delay also affects the bots that you use to moderate your stream.
To wrap it all up
Now that you know how to add a delay to your chats, you can give your mods ample time to review your messages. When someone deletes or bans a user during the delay, the message won’t appear on the chat.
