How To Create Charts In Google Sheets

The most effective way to present data is through charts or graphs and by adding them to your documents. However, that might be pretty difficult to create when you’re going to construct the whole thing manually, but if you were to use Google Sheets, it would be a completely different thing.

Google Sheets

The platform makes the work easier for you because it already provides you with templates, and you just have to choose one among all of them. Type in the values you need on it, and after that, it will automatically generate a chart reflecting all the data you have inputted.

This is an essential thing you have to learn, so let’s get started.

1. Go to Google Sheets then select a spreadsheet to modify.

Open the Google Sheets web browser on your computer and select which of your existing spreadsheets requires data alteration by displaying those data in the form of a chart.

2. Input data in the sheet.

Presenting a graph to convey information will be a lot easier for you, but before you can successfully insert a chart in your sheets, an essential thing to have first is the data used as a reference in creating a chart.

3. Select the cells that contains the data you want to graph.

Select the range of cells containing the values and data that you want to incorporate in the graph you’re creating. A blue outline and highlight should appear around and on the selected cells. Adding a name or label for the values is ideal in creating a chart because it makes your graph or chart look more informative and organized, making it easier for the audience to grasp.

4. Click “Insert” then select “Chart.”

After you’ve selected the cells you want to import, click “Insert” from the toolbar, and a drop-down menu will appear. Selecting “Chart” from that option will bring up a panel on the right side of the screen. This panel lets you alter and customize the chart that appears when you select “Chart” from the menu.

5. Select a kind of chart you prefer.

Google Sheets will generate a chart based on the data you provide, but if you want to modify the type of graph displayed, edit the “Chart type” section. You can select one of seven alternatives, which are as follows:

  1. Pie Chart
  2. Line
  3. Area
  4. Column
  5. Bar
  6. Scatter
  7. Map

The pie chart and the column graph are two of the most commonly used graphs. The pie chart is best utilized when your data adds up to 100%, and the column chart is best used when comparing data over time.

6. Click on “Customise” if you want to modify the chart.

After you’ve identified the type of chart to display, you can alter the design to suit your preferences. You can change the style, the appearance of the chart and even add a title to it. The adjustments you make will automatically be reflected in the chart.

Summing Things Up

Whether you want to insert a pie chart, graph, bar, and line graph into your document, that wouldn’t be any problem at all when you’re in Google Sheets. What’s great about it is that it lets you customize how you wish your graphs to look by adjusting their color, chart size, font, and many more.

Try to explore it when you’re on Google Sheets and see what more you can do in making a nice-looking graph!
