How To Create A Post On Slack
Last Updated: November 22, 2021
Do you want to share content that won’t fit in your messages on Slack? Or do you want to start a collaboration project within your workspace? Either way, you can create a post and share them on channels on conversations you have on the app. In our guide below, we’ll show you how posts work on the Slack app.
In Slack, you can send messages to a channel to start quick discussions around your workspace. However, there are times when the content you want to share won’t fit in a single message.
Thankfully, Discord allows you to create posts that you can share with conversations within the app. As such, you can start plans, projects and share notes without using other services or third-party apps.
Aside from creating and sharing a post, you can also allow other conversation participants to edit its contents. With the help of this feature, you can ask for collaboration with other people from your workspace.
Here’s our guide about creating and sharing a post on Slack.
How to create a post on Slack
If you want to share content that won’t fit a normal message on Slack, you can create a post on a channel. In this way, you can collaborate with your fellow workspace members directly on the app.
You can create a post on Slack from their desktop or web app. Follow our quick tutorial below, and we’ll show you how to create and share one on your workspace.
- Launch the Slack desktop or web app and sign in to your account.
- Head to one of the conversations or channels on your workspace
- Click the lightning icon on the left side of the message field to open the shortcuts menu.
- Browse the menu and select the “Create a post” option.
- Add a title and start filling up your post with texts and images.
- Click the Share icon on the top right corner of the window.
- Select the channel or conversation where you want to send the post, add an optional comment, and hit the green Share button to confirm your decision.
Slack saves updates to the post automatically. These posts are private until you share them with one of the channels or conversations on your workspace.
Before sharing the post to a conversation, you can allow other users to edit the file. As such, you can collaborate with your workspace members on a project without using a third-party app. However, only one person can edit the post at a time.
Unfortunately, you can’t create or edit posts on the Slack mobile app. However, you can still view the files on your phone whenever you want.
To wrap things up
Now that you know how to create a post on Slack, you can share long-term plans, notes, and other content that won’t fit in a single message. Please note that if you allow file editing, any member can edit a post if shared publicly.
