How To Create A Moderated Group Chat On Skype

Do you want to have a chat on Skype where you have more control over the members? Or do you want to only allow the admins to start a call on the conversation? In any case, you can create moderated group chats on the app that gives more admin permissions over regular groups. Check our quick guide below, and we’ll show you how to do it on your account.

Tutorial

In Skype, users can create group chats with their friends and contacts on the app. This option allows users to start discussions in a single conversation with multiple people online.

However, regular groups allow every participant to edit the chat details, photos, and information. If you want to have more control over the chat members and their information, you’ll want to create a moderated group on the app.

Here’s how to create a moderated group chat on the Skype mobile and desktop app.

How to start a moderated group chat on Skype

If you want to have a group on Skype with more control over the members, you can create a moderated group chat on the app. Admins of a moderated group can ban members, modify roles, and more.

You can create moderated groups from the Skype desktop and mobile apps. In our tutorials below, we’ll cover the steps to do so from both app versions.

On your phone:

  1. Open the Skype app from your home screen or app drawer and sign in to your account.
  2. Head to the Chats tab and tap the Compose icon on the bottom right.

  3. Select “New Moderated Chat” from the menu.

  4. Choose the group’s name and photo (optional), and select the arrow icon on the bottom right to continue.

  5. Add the group members and tap Done at the bottom to create the moderated chat.

Admins of a moderated chat can assign roles, manage chat members, and go start a group call with other participants. They can also customize the chat whenever they want.

On your computer:

  2. Click the “New Chat” option on the sidebar and select the “New Moderated Group” option from the menu.
