Do you want to reach your international and local audience on Viber while protecting their privacy? Do you want to hide the identity of the chat members from each other? In any case, you can start a channel on the app. Check our step-by-step guide below, and we’ll cover the steps to do so.
Tutorial
Aside from starting groups and individual chats on Viber, there are other ways to communicate and reach out to different people on the app. For example, you can create channels and communities to reach your audiences on the app.
Channels on Viber work like view-only communities on the app. Only admins and Super can post within the channel, while members can only view them within the conversation.
With the help of channels, users can promote their brand, fanbase, or themselves without cluttering the chat. Here’s our guide about starting a channel on Viber.
How to start a channel on Viber
If you want to create an announcement group for your brand, fanbase, and other stuff, you can create a channel on Viber. This feature allows users to reach their intended audience without worrying about managing the members.
You can only create a channel from the Viber mobile app. In our tutorials below, we’ll cover all the steps you need to know.
On your phone:
- Launch the Viber app from your home screen or app drawer and sign in to your account.
- Head to the Chats tab and select the Compose icon on the bottom right.
- Select the New channel option from the menu and tap the Create Channel button at the bottom.
- Choose the members for your channel and select the Next button on the bottom right to confirm your decision.
When creating a channel, you can only select and invite up to 50 contacts. However, you can add more later from the channel settings.
Like view-only communities, channels on Viber only allow admins and Superadmins to post within it. In this way, it can work like an announcement group, keeping your chats clean without unnecessary clutter.
Once your channel reaches several thresholds, you’ll receive an option to make it a public channel. Public channels are discoverable to everyone that searches the channel’s name or one of its keywords.
To wrap things up
Now that you know how to create a channel on Viber, you can now create one for your fanbase, brand, and other stuff that you want to promote on the app. If you ever change your mind, you can always delete the channel whenever you want.
