Last Updated: November 15, 2022
Do you want to post a story on Signal for selected viewers only? Or do you intend to share one with a group on the app? In any case, you can create a custom story type on Signal to select people that you want to view your story. Follow our quick guide below and we’ll teach you how to do so.
Tutorial
In one of Signal’s recent updates, the app introduced the “Stories” feature to the Android and iOS apps. Much like Facebook and Instagram stories, this feature allows users to share photos, videos, or text with their friends and contacts that lasts for a day.
By default, all your contacts on the app can check the stories you post. However, we understand that there might be situations where you’ll want to share a story with selected people.
Thankfully, you can create custom story types on the app to select the audience that you prefer. Here’s a quick guide to help you use the feature on Signal.
How to create a custom story audience on Signal
If you want to direct your Signal stories to selected people or groups, you can create a custom story audience on the app. In this way, you can post stories that only a few people will be able to view.
You can set a custom audience from your Stories Privacy settings on Signal. Check our tutorial below and we’ll teach you how to do so.
On your phone:
- Launch the Signal app on your device and sign in to your account.
- Tap your profile icon above the chats list to open your Settings.
- Select the “Stories” option on the Settings page.
- Select the “New Story” option to create a custom story audience.
- Choose the type of story that you want to use. You can create a custom story for selected people or choose a group as your audience.
- Type the story name, choose the group or contacts that you want to add, and select “Create” on the bottom right to confirm your decision.
That’s how you create a custom story type on Signal. The next time you try to post a story, you can select your newly created story type to make sure that your story reaches the intended audience only.
If you ever change your mind, you can always delete a custom story type on the app. All you have to do is open the story type on your Settings, select the delete option, and confirm your decision.
To wrap it all up
Now that you know how to create custom story types on Signal, you can reach the target audience of your stories without showing them to all of your contacts. Always remember that you can choose specific people or a group for your audience.
