How to change your display name in Microsoft Teams
If you want to hide your full name on Microsoft Teams, you have the option to change your display name that is visible to other users. All you have to do is edit your profile and save the changes.
Follow our quick guide below to learn how to change your Microsoft Teams display name from your computer or Android device.
On your computer:
- Open the Microsoft Teams desktop app or web browser client and sign-in.
- At the top right side of your screen, click your profile picture.
- Click Edit Profile.
- Once the pop up shows on your screen, enter the name that you want to use on the appropriate field. After changing your profile name, tap Save to update your account.
Take note that changing your profile name through this method only applies to the organization that you’re currently using. You have to update your account on each different org if you want to hide your name from all of your work-related stuff on the platform.
- Open the Teams app from your home screen or app drawer.
- At the top left corner of the app, tap the three horizontal lines to open the menu.
- Tap your name or icon to access your profile.
- At the top right corner of your screen, tap the Edit name icon.
- Change your display name and tap the checkmark at the top right corner to save the changes.
Note: If you change your display name on your personal account, it also updates your profile on your Microsoft account.
If the changes to your profile name don’t immediately reflect on the app, try refreshing the page or sign-out and sign-in to your account.
How to change your Microsoft account’s display name
If you want to edit your Microsoft account’s profile as well, open your favorite browser and sign-in to the information page on their website. On this page, you have the option to edit your name, birthday, display language, and your country.
To change your name, click Edit name, make some changes, type the CAPTCHA, and select Save. This update will reflect on your emails, Outlook groups, and how other users see your account.
How to change the team name on Microsoft Teams
If you’re the creator or owner of an organization on Microsoft Teams, you have the option to change the team name and manage other settings such as team members, description, and privacy.
To edit your team’s display name, you must first access the Teams tab from the left side of your screen. Click More options (three-dot icon) next to the team’s name and click Edit name. After making the changes, click the Save button to save the updates.
