Although you can use Spotify for free, the music streaming service offers a couple of premium plans you can use to get ad-free music listening, unlimited skipping, and offline streaming. Each of these plans has different prices, and some of them allow you to get discounts.

You can use the Student plan if you have the documents to confirm it, Duo with your friend or roommate, or the Family plan for your household. If you’re currently on a premium subscription and missed on these offers, you can always change your plan on the Spotify Account page.

With that in mind, we have here a guide for you. We’ll show you how to switch your premium plan on the Spotify Account page on your browser.

How to switch your premium plan on Spotify

If you want to change your premium subscription on Spotify to another plan, you can do so as long as you subscribed directly to the app. Whether you’re using the Individual, Student, Duo, or Family plan, you can switch your subscription anytime you want.

To switch your premium plan, you need to visit Spotify’s Account Page on your web browser and manage your subscriptions from there. If you’re having trouble navigating to the page and changing your settings, we’ll show you how to do so in our step-by-step tutorial below.

  1. Using your preferred web browser, visit Spotify’s Account Page and sign in to your account.
  2. Head to the Account Overview tab.

  3. Scroll down to the “Your plan” section and click the Change Plan button. Alternatively, you can directly click Available Plans on the left.

  4. Browse the available plans and select the one you want to use.

  5. If your decision is final, click the green Change Plan button to confirm the changes to your plan.

Note: For Spotify Family members, you’ll need to cancel your subscription before you can switch to another premium plan.

After changing your plan on Spotify, the remaining days on your previous subscription transfer over to your new one. Your billing date is the time when those remaining days run out.

As for those who manage a Family or a Duo account, you might want to let your members know that they’ll lose the premium features at your next billing date after switching a plan. After all, they might want to change plans before the time comes.

If you don’t see any option to change your plan, it means that you got your subscription from an associated partner of Spotify. In this case, you first need to contact the company to cancel your plan and subscribe to a new one. You can find the company’s details on your account page under the Payment section.

To wrap it all up

Now that you know to change your plan on Spotify, you can go ahead and choose from the available premium subscription you can use on the app. Some of them allow you to get discounts from the original price.

Always remember that your next billing date starts on the day your previous plan runs out. It is a good idea to notify the other members if you’re on Duo or Family plan ahead of time that they’ll lose premium access at the next payment date.
