How To Change Your Name In Gmail
Last Updated: May 9, 2021
Do you want to hide the name connected with your Google account on your mails on Gmail? Do you want to use another name instead? If that’s the case, you’re exactly in the right place. In our guide below, we’ll show you how to change and use another display name on your Gmail account.
By default, the name displayed on emails you send on Gmail is the one associated with your Google account. It will be visible alongside your email address and other information to the recipient.
While most people have no problems with this feature, some people value their privacy. Thankfully, Gmail allows you to change your display name on the platform.
By using another name on your emails, you get to hide the one linked to your address. As such, you can worry less about people using that information to find out more about you.
With that in mind, we created a guide to help you. We’ll show you how to change your name on Gmail with our step-by-step tutorial below.
How to use another name when sending emails using Gmail
If you want to use another name on your emails other than the one associated with your account, you have the option to do so on your Settings. In this way, you don’t have to reveal your full name when dealing with other people.
Please note that you can’t change your name through the Gmail app. You can only do it from the web client of the email service. Follow our step-by-step tutorials below to learn how.
- Using your preferred web browser, visit Gmail and sign in to your account.
- Click the gear icon on the upper-right side of your screen and select “See all settings” on the menu.
- Go to the “Accounts and Import” tab.
- On the “Send email as” section, click Edit info.
- Add your desired name on the empty field, select the button beside it, and save the changes.
After adding and using another name on Gmail, it will be visible on emails you send instead of the one associated with your Google account.
If you can’t change your display name, you might be trying to change it multiple times in a short period. On the other hand, your Workspace admin might have disabled the feature for you.
Please note that you can’t change your username or email address on Gmail. However, you can choose to connect new addresses to your account to send mails through them.
To sum it all up
You can find the option to add or change your display name on Gmail by navigating to Settings > “Accounts and Import” and editing your “Send email as” info. When you do, your new display name will be visible to the recipients of your messages instead of the one linked to your address.
Now that you know how to use this feature, you’ll have no problems hiding your name from the recipients of your emails. As such, you’ll worry less about people that might use that information to find you on social media platforms.
