How To Change Workspace Icon On Slack

Are people having trouble identifying your Slack workspace among the other ones associated with their email? Or do you want to add your brand or company logo to your workspace? Either way, you can upload an image to your workspace on Slack. Follow our quick guide below, and we’ll show you how to do so from their web or desktop app.

Tutorial

When you create a workspace on Slack, adding an icon is optional. If you didn’t upload an image, the app uses the initials of your workspace name as the icon instead.

Although using an icon is optional, it is most helpful when you have multiple workspaces. It can help members visually identify your workspace if they have a couple of other workspaces connected to their email addresses.

Thankfully, uploading an icon to Slack is pretty straightforward. As long as you have permission to customize the workspace, you can change the icon any time you want.

With that in mind, here’s our guide about changing your workspace icon on Slack.

How to upload an icon to your Slack workspace

In Slack, you can upload a logo of your company or brand to your workspace. By doing so, your members can easily identify the right workspace among others connected to their accounts.

You can upload a workspace icon on the Slack desktop or web app. Check our step-by-step tutorials below, and we’ll cover everything you need to know.

  1. On your desktop, open Slack (desktop or web app) and sign in to your workspace.
  2. Click your workspace name on the top left side of the app.

  3. Hover to Settings & Administration and select Customize [workspace] on the menu.

  4. Head to the Workspace Icon tab.

  5. Choose an image from your device and click the Upload Icon.

  6. Crop the image to save the changes.

If you ever change your mind, you can remove the workspace icon whenever you want. You can also upload a new image for you to use.

For choosing a good icon, we recommend using an image with a solid background, some graphical logo, and a size of 132 pixels or higher. However, you can choose to use any image that you want for your workspace since you can crop it before saving the icon.

After uploading your workspace icon, every member can see it when signing in to their account or when switching between workspaces. As such, they can recognize the right workspace immediately among the others connected to their account.

Always remember that only admins and workspace owners can upload or change the icon. If you don’t have permission to customize your workspace, ask the ones that do for help.

Customize your Slack workspace by adding an icon

Now that you know how to upload an icon to your Slack workspace, you can choose to use any image, whether it’s a logo, graphic design, or others. As long as the members can relate the image to your workspace, the design is up to you.
