Do you want to hide your background from other participants in your Microsoft Teams meeting? Or do you want to use filters to make your video feed more lively? Either way, we’re here to help you. In our guide below, we’ll teach you how to apply filters to change your background in Teams.
Microsoft Teams is a popular online communication platform that allows its users to host virtual meetings with other people. It’s also a collaboration tool that an organization can use to share their files and ideas from anywhere, online.
Besides toggling your video and audio settings on a meeting, you can also apply filters to change your background. You can choose to pick from pre-uploaded images or use one from your device.
If you want to use this feature in your meetings, we’re here to help you. Follow our quick guide below to learn how to use background filters on Microsoft Teams.
How to change your background before entering a meeting
When you’re preparing to enter a meeting room on Teams, you can choose to set the background you want to use. By doing so, you can prevent other users from seeing the things behind you on your video feed.
Changing your background is only available on the Teams desktop app. Follow our quick step-by-step tutorial below to learn how to use the feature in your meetings.
On your computer:
- Open the Teams desktop app and sign-in to your account.
- Start a meeting or join an existing one.
- On your video feed preview, turn on your camera and select Background filters.
- Choose which background you want to use. You can choose to use any of the default images or upload a photo from your device by clicking “Add New.”
After changing your background, you can go ahead and join the meeting. In this way, no one can see what’s behind you on your feed. If you plan to upload a photo to use as a custom background, make sure that it’s a JPG, PNG, or BMP file.
Please note that your new background lasts for all your future meetings unless you change or disable it. To turn it off, click the cancel option beside the blur filter.
How to change your background during a meeting
If you want to change or turn off your background during a meeting, access More options and select Apply background effects. You can choose to preview it first before applying it to your video feed.
- During a meeting, click the ellipsis on the upper right side of the meeting window to view More actions.
- Click Apply background effects.
- Choose a default image to use or upload a new one from your device. You can also choose to blur your background instead.
- Click the Preview button to check the background on your feed and select Apply to save the changes.
That’s how you change your background during a meeting. If you can’t find the option to do so on your device, it means that it’s currently unavailable on your app version. To enjoy most of Microsoft Team’s features, you might want to use the desktop app.
To wrap it all up
Now that you know how to use filters in Microsoft Teams, you can go ahead and change your background in all of your video conferences. You can even change before joining or during a meeting on the platform.
When changing your background, you can apply a pre-uploaded image, use one from your device, or blur it instead.
