How To Change Or Update Your Dns On A Firestick

The Firestick has a lot to offer. There are some amazing apps you can download and install on your TV. You can watch your favorite movies and more. But, region restrictions limit the potential of this device. Or sometimes videos take forever to buffer and load.

To avoid this problem you can change the DNS on your Firestick. That’s exactly why we made this guide for you. Here, we will show you how you can update or change your DNS on the Fire TV. All you have to do is follow these simple steps and you will get right to it. Let’s get started.

Step 1

Before you can change the DNS server, you will need to write down a couple of important stuff first. We need to write down some details of our current network setup. You can access this information via the “IP Tools: Network Utilities” app.

To do that, go to the “Search” option on your Fire TV. It is the magnifying glass on the top-left corner of the screen. Type “Ip tools”. Download and install the app on your Firestick.

Step 2

Open the app. Scroll down until you find “Search by IP”. Here, you should take a piece of paper and a pen. It is time to write these stuff down. Now, this is very important. You will need this information later when you update the DNS. So, write down your internal IP, broadcast address, and gateway.

Step 3

Go back to the home screen on your Firestick. Then, click on the “Settings” tab in the top corner of the screen. Open it.

Step 4

Click on “Network”. It is right next to “Notifications”.

Step 5

This is your network settings. Here, you can see the name of the network you are currently connected to. What you want to do now is click on “Forget this network”. It is in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

Step 6

You’ve disconnected from your network. Now, click on your network again.

Step 7

Type the password and click on “Advanced”. It is between the buttons “Cancel” and “Connect”.

Step 8

Type the information we told you to write down earlier. That is the IP address, Gateway, and all the necessary information. Next, add the Network Prefix. The prefix in this example is 24.

Step 9

Here is where you can change the DNS server. You can type any server you want. Here, we used Google’s public DNS. It is safe and available to everyone. If you want to connect to the same DNS, type the numbers you see in the screenshot below.

You need to type the secondary and primary DNS if you want to connect to any DNS server. When you are finished, click “Next”. You will see that the Firestick is now connected to the internet. That’s it!
