How To Cancel Your Spotify Premium Subscription
Last Updated: May 23, 2021
Do you think that your Spotify premium subscription isn’t the best music streaming service for you? Or did you find a better alternative to the platform? Either way, we’re here to help you. In our quick guide below, we’ll show you how to terminate your premium plan on Spotify.
Spotify premium is a huge upgrade compared to the platform’s free plan. It allows the users to play music without ads, download them on the mobile app for offline streaming, and stream songs without shuffling.
Although there’s no denying the fact that the premium subscription is one of the best plans out there, it’s not for everyone. Some might prefer other streaming platforms, while others feel that they don’t need the extra features.
In any case, we have here a guide to help you cancel your premium subscription and go back to the free plan. We’ll show you how to do it step-by-step, so you don’t have to worry about anything else.
Without further ado, let’s get started.
How to cancel your premium membership in Spotify
If you feel that you don’t need your Spotify premium subscription anymore, you can choose to cancel it and revert to their free membership. When you do, you’ll go back to streaming with ads and shuffling through playlists.
Please note that you can’t cancel your subscription on the Spotify desktop and mobile app. You can only do it by visiting your Spotify account page using a web browser.
Follow our step-by-step tutorial below to learn how.
- Using your preferred web browser, visit the Spotify account page and log in to your account.
- Make sure that you’re on the Account Overview tab.
- Scroll down to the “Your Plan” section and click the Change Plan button.
- At the bottom of the page, select Cancel Premium.
- Read how your decision will change how you listen to music on Spotify. If you’re still good to go, click the “Continue to cancel” option.
- Once you finish going through all the recommendations from Spotify, click “Yes, cancel” to confirm your decision.
Note: You can also use your mobile web to terminate your subscription.
After canceling your premium subscription, you’ll go back to the Spotify free plan on your next billing date. Before that happens, you can still enjoy music without interruptions and play any song on the mobile and desktop app.
You’ll also lose access to all your downloaded music on the mobile app once you revert to the free plan. However, you can still use your account to play music with ads.
If you don’t see the option to change your plan on Spotify, you might have bought your premium plan through one of the partner companies of the music service.
As such, you’ll need to contact the company you used and cancel your account through them. You can find the contact link and information in the Payment section of your Account Overview tab.
To sum it all up
You can cancel your Spotify premium subscription by changing your plan through the platform’s Account Overview page on your web browser.
When you do, you’ll lose all premium features once your next billing date passes. But if you ever change your mind and want your premium plan back, you can always subscribe again anytime you want.
