How To Block Spam Messages On Discord

Do you want to prevent people from sending potential spam messages on your Discord server? Or do you simply want to note down the people that try to send these messages on your channels? In any case, you can make use of the AutoMod feature on the app to filter out spam messages within your server.

Tutorial

Maintaining a community server in Discord can be quite a task, especially if it has a lot of members and channels. Although admins and moderators can help maintain the community safe, they can’t check every message that goes through your channels or monitor voice calls every time.

Thankfully, Discord has a new feature that can help protect your community servers on the app. With the help of the AutoMod feature, you can automatically filter out spam mentions, messages, and specific keywords on the app.

Here’s our guide about modifying the AutoMod feature on the app.

How to use AutoMod to block spam messages on Discord

If you want to filter out messages and remove spam from your Discord server, you can set up the AutoMod feature to block them. Aside from blocking potential spam messages, you can also filter specific languages from your server.

You can manage the AutoMod settings from the Discord desktop app. Follow our step-by-step tutorial below, and we’ll show you how to set it up to block spam messages on the app.

On your computer:

  1. Open the Discord desktop app and sign in to your account.
  2. Go to one of your servers, click its name, and select the “Server Settings” option on the menu.

  3. Select “AutoMod” under the Moderation section on the sidebar.

  4. Click the “Block Spam Content” rule and choose a response to messages suspected of being spam. You can also add roles or channels to exclude them from this rule.

Note: The AutoMod feature is only available on Community servers on Discord.

Aside from blocking or filtering spam messages, you can also block mentions from a specific user on the app. Once the user exceeds the set amount of mentions, you can block them directly or send an alert to a channel.

You can also filter commonly flagged words such as insults, severe profanity, and sexual content. You also have the option to set a custom keyword rule to block specific messages from your server.

With the help of these features, you can keep your server safe while taking a load of work from your moderators.
