Is someone harassing you on Instagram? Do you want to stop the person from viewing your profile, commenting on your posts, or sending direct messages? If so, you can block their account on the app. Follow our quick guide below, and we’ll show you how.
By default, Instagram allows users to view your profile or send you direct messages on the app. In this way, your friends can find your account much easier, and more people can follow your profile.
However, we understand that there are cases where you don’t want someone to message you or view your profile on the app. Whether it’s due to offensive messages, personal reasons, or other stuff, you can block someone’s account on Instagram.
Blocking on Instagram cuts off all potential interactions from the user, including checking your profile, sending you messages, or commenting on your posts. When blocking someone, you have the option to include all their alter accounts on the app.
Here’s how to block users on Instagram.
How to block a user on Instagram
If you don’t want someone on Instagram to view your profile, check your stories, or message you on the app, you have the option to block their account. Although blocking won’t notify the person about your decision, they might realize that they’re blocked after some time.
You can block users whether you’re using Instagram on your desktop or mobile device. We’ll show you how to block Instagram users from both devices.
On your Android device:
- Open Instagram and visit the profile that you want to block.
- Tap the three dots icon at the top right corner of the page.
- On the menu that appears on your screen, select the Block option.
- Choose whether to block the current account or include new accounts from the person and tap Block to confirm your decision.
Once you block someone on Instagram, the person won’t be able to view your profile, send you messages, or check your stories on the app regardless of your privacy settings. If you ever change your mind, you can always navigate to your Settings to view and manage blocked users on your account.
On the Instagram web app:
- Head to the profile page of the person you want to block and click the three dots icon on the upper right side of your screen.
- On the pop-up window that appears on your screen, select the Block option.
- Press Block on the next window that appears on your screen to confirm your decision.
As we mentioned earlier, blocking someone doesn’t notify the owner of the account. However, the person may realize that they’re blocked when they suddenly can’t find your profile or check your story on the app.
If you don’t want to completely cut off a user on Instagram, you have the option to restrict their account instead. In this way, you can ignore their messages while limiting your interactions with the person.
To wrap it all up
Now that you know how to block someone on Instagram, you can prevent someone from viewing your account or directly messaging you through the chat. Always remember that you have another option to limit your interactions with a user without blocking them completely.
