Candice specializes in Ice type Pokémon that can freeze you in your tracks if you’re not careful. Here’s how you can beat Snowpoint City’s Diamond Dust Girl.

Snowpoint Gym

Located in the northernmost part of the Sinnoh region, Snowpoint city truly lives up to its name being mostly covered in snow and that path towards it being blanketed by a raging snowstorm. It is because of the harsh weather conditions that made it a prime spot for training Ice type Pokémon.

Upon entering the gym, you’ll see that the floor is frozen solid with some snowballs blocking certain paths. If you step on the frozen path, you’ll immediately slide towards the direction you are facing, only stopping once you hit an obstacle or a patch of snow. You need to find a way to use the force from sliding to destroy some of the snowballs that block the path to the gym leader.

There are a total of 6 trainers you can face before you can get to Candice and all of them use mostly Ice type Pokémon with only a few deviations.

Ace Trainer Sergio

  • Floatzel Lv. 37
  • Sneasel Lv. 37

Ace Trainer Alicia

  • Sneasel Lv. 37
  • Tentacruel Lv. 37

Ace Trainer Savannah

  • Pelipper Lv. 35
  • Golduck Lv. 36
  • Steelix Lv. 37

Ace Trainer Isaiah

  • Quagsire Lv. 39

Ace Trainer Anton

  • Snover Lv. 39

Ace Trainer Breanna

  • Snover Lv. 39

Most of these trainers will carry an Ice type Pokémon with them while some of them will carry Pokémon that aren’t Ice types so you have to watch out for that. Ace Trainers Isaiah, Alicia, and Savannah in particular don’t have any Ice type Pokémon with them. Carrying an Electric type, Water type, and a Grass type can help you out in beating these trainers.

Candice

Candice is Snowpoint City’s Gym Leader. Despite being an Ice type specialist, Candice actually exudes a very warm personality. Ice type Gym Leaders are usually cold and aloof (looking at you Pryce). Being the seventh Gym you have to face in the game, you can bet that Candice is packing some really strong Pokémon with her.

  • Snover Lv. 38
  • Sneasel Lv. 38
  • Medicham Lv. 40
  • Abomasnow Lv. 42

Ice types are weak against Fire, Fighting, Rock, and Steel. Carrying Pokémon of these types or know moves of these types will greatly increase your chances of easily beating Candice. Watch out for Medicham since it isn’t an Ice type and wouldn’t be susceptible to the same weaknesses as Ice type Pokémon. Ideally, you can just take a reliable Fire type and you’ll beat Candice with no problem. Rapidash and Houndoom are great choices for Fire Pokémon at this point in the game. If you started with Chimchar you don’t need to worry about this gym at all since you can just use Infernape to take out the Ice Pokémon. If you chose either Turtwig or Piplup, it would be better for you if you go for a Fire Pokémon instead. Turtwig, in particular, is especially weak to Ice types with Torterra being 4x weak to it.

Icicle Badge

Once you beat Candice, you’ll receive the Icicle Badge. This raises the level of Pokémon that will obey you without question that you receive from trades.

You’ll also be able to use the Hidden Move Rock Climb outside of battle. This allows you to scale climbable rocks on edges of certain cliffs. As an additional reward, Candice will give you the TM for Avalanche, a powerful Ice type move that can deal massive damage if the user was attacked in the same turn this move is used.
