Barioth is one of the most intimidating monsters you’ll face in Monster Hunter Rise. With its long fangs, ferocious speed, and ability to blend in the sheets of snow in the frozen tundra, it’s safe to say that this monster isn’t like the others. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

Barioth

Barioth isn’t introduced as the Flurry of Frosted Fangs for no reason. This is a monster that’s always in attack mode. It hits hard and hits fast. It’s like a white jet of pure aggression. It has a bunch of quick moves that will knock you off your feet and send you carting if you’re not careful. Although it’s mostly a physical attacker, it does have a few elemental attacks up its sleeve. For starters, it can create an ice tornado that can leave you vulnerable to its attacks if it hits. Things can take a turn for the worse if it goes into its enraged state. When enraged, it will become noticeably faster and more agile than it was before. All of its attacks will hit harder and can KO you if your armor isn’t up to par. So how would you go about beating this monster? Focus on its weaknesses, that’s how.
Weaknesses

When going against Barioth, it’s best to bring Fire element weapons to counter its icy nature. Its Head, Abdomen, and Wings are prime spots where you should focus your attacks on. Its tail is also severable so a cutting weapon can do some pretty decent damage.

As for ailments, Blast and Fireblight are the most effective against Barioth. If you have access to these ailments with your preferred weapons, then you should have no trouble wearing Barioth down.
Best Weapon to Use

All weapons tend to generally do well against Barioth, but we’ll give the slight edge to blunt weapons. Out of all the weapons, it deals the most damage to the head and wings which are easy targets when going after Barioth. The two blunt weapons in the game are the Hammer and the Hunting Horn. Both are strong in their own right so it mostly boils down to preference. If you like having buffs to add that extra oomph in your hits, you should go for the Hunting Horn. Personally, we’d go for the Hunting Horn since it’s easier to chain your combos. Blunt weapons can also stun monsters when you hit them in the head so it could seriously slow down the super mobile Barioth. Any of the highest damage Hunting Horn you have would be fine but if we could recommend a specific Hunting Horn at this point in the game, it would be the Zurogong Primo II. It’s from the Arzuros Tree and can increase your Attack, Defense, and can make you slightly immune to sound based damage.
Useful Tips
- Barioth is super mobile. Anything you can do to slow it down would help you to beat it faster. Use Shock Traps or Pitfall Traps if you have two. A good way to slow it down is by stunning it by repeatedly going after its head with a blunt weapon.
- Barioth’s neck, back, and thorns are very durable and resistant to most forms of damage. Try to avoid hitting these parts and go for its weak points.
