Anjanath

Being a brute wyvern, Anjanath is an absolute beast to fight against. It certainly lives up to its reputation of being a “Relentless Ruffian.” Players who’ve played Monster Hunter: World will certainly recognize this monster as this was the first real spike in difficulty among the early monsters you’ll face in the game. Despite sharing a similar color scheme with a certain friendly dinosaur, the Anjanath is a ferocious, fire breathing monster that will relentlessly attack you any chance it gets.

Looking at the Anjanath, you can tell that it has immense speed and power. As such, you should never mistake it for a lumbering creature. It’s quick enough to sweep you off your feet and chunk out a huge portion of your health. Since it is a fire element monster, you can be sure that it will inflict fireblight whenever you’re hit with its fire breathing attacks. It will often use its tail and jaws to hit you and bite you with all of its might. So how do you go about beating this monster?

Weaknesses

Anjanath is a difficult monster to beat, yes, but it is surprisingly easy to do so if you know what it’s weaknesses are. As expected from a fire element monster, Anjanath is very weak against water element weapons. Using elemental weapons to your advantage can help you easily beat this monster. Looking at its Physiology, you can tell that bladed weapons do the most damage against this monster. Its Head, Snout, Wing, and Tail are the best spots to focus your attacks on. These are its weak spots and hitting them will do considerably more damage to it as opposed to other areas on its body. Despite being a fire element monster, Ice elemental weapons are also pretty effective against Anjanath. At this point in the game, you should have some pretty solid choices for elemental weapons that you can use so you shouldn’t have a hard time picking a weapon to use against Anjanath.

As for ailments, Waterblight works best against Anjanath. Since it is a fire element monster, it is naturally weak against water based weapons, blights, and attacks. Surprisingly, Fireblight can still work against Anjanath as well. Blast is the only ailment that will have no effect against it.

Best Weapon to Use

All weapons will work pretty well against Anjanath. If you’re unsure of what weapon to use, you can just go ahead and pick whatever neutral weapon you’re comfortable with that has the highest raw damage. But if we were to give a personal recommendation, we would go with the Insect Glaive. The Insect Glaive in Monster Hunter Rise is slightly weaker than in previous games. Since its primary purpose was to give Hunters a chance to do aerial combat against flying monsters, the introduction of the wire bugs made it feel a little obsolete and redundant. Nevertheless, if you give it enough time, the Insect Glaive can be a powerful weapon in the right hands and the right situation. It should work well against Anjanath since it has a wide array of sweeping combos and aerial combos that will allow you to effortlessly hit the monster’s weak points. If your Insect Glaive is sharp enough, it can also cut off the Anjanath’s tail, giving you more opportunities to carve for rare materials.

Useful Tips

  1. Like most monsters, Anjanath will enter an enraged state at some point in your battle. When it is in this state, it’s attacks will be twice as fast and hit twice as hard. A good tip to keep in mind is to stay mobile at all times when against Anjanath. You can’t be a sitting duck against this monster. Make full use of the wirebugs so you can easily dodge and stay away from its attacks.
  2. Shielded weapons can actually block off the Anjanath’s fire breathing attacks. Lance, Gunlance, Sword and Shield, and Charge Blade are some weapons with shields that can be effective in blocking attacks from the Anjanath.
