Using The Mobile App

If you are enabling this function of Google Maps using your mobile phone, this is the outline you should be following.

1. Launch the Google Maps application on your phone.

First, you must open the Google Maps app on your phone then make sure that your account is logged in.

2. Enter your destination in the search bar.

After logging in to Google Maps, you will see a search bar on the top part of the screen to enter your trip destination.

3. Click the “Directions” button.

Afterward, click “Directions,” which is directly below the map. This will bring you to a new screen where you should enter your starting point.

4. Tap the three vertically-stacked dots.

You should see the three dots on the right side of the space provided for your starting point. Click this icon then a drop-down list will appear on your screen.

5. Select “Route options” from the list.

The list of options includes route options, Add Stop, Find Parking, Share directions, and many more. From these available features, you should select the first, which is the “Route options.”

6. Toggle the button beside the option “Avoid tolls.”

After selecting the “Route Options,” a pop-up window will show up where you can now toggle the button next to “Avoid tolls.” Take note that it will immediately and automatically be applied to your route.

Using Google Maps On Web

Fortunately, even if you don’t have the mobile application for Google Maps, you can still avoid tolls during your trip by following the few steps mentioned below.

1. Open your browser then go to Google Maps.

The first step should be opening your browser and then navigating to Google Maps.

2. Enter your destination on the search bar.

On the top-right corner of the page, you will see the search bar where you should enter your destination.

3. Click the “Directions” button.

You now need to click “Directions” for Google Maps to show the initial route. At this point, make sure you’ve already entered your starting point.

4. Click “Options.”

Now, you must click “Options” just directly below where you entered your destination.

5. Go to the “Avoid” section then select “Tolls.”

Lastly, all you need to do now is go to the section labeled as “Avoid,” then check the box beside the option “Tolls.” This will automatically be applied to your route.
