How To Archive A Thread On Discord

Do you want to hide a thread manually on Discord? Or do you no longer need the discussion from appearing on your server? Either way, you can archive the threads you don’t need on the app to declutter the channels on the app. Follow our quick guide below, and we’ll teach you the steps to archiving thread discussions on Discord.

Threads in Discord allow users to start organized discussions within the text channels of a server. With the help of this feature, channel participants can follow and respond to conversations within the channel.

As time passes by, you may no longer need a thread discussion in one of your channels. Although Discord automatically archives them after some time, you can manually do it if you don’t want to wait.

Without further ado, here’s our guide about archiving threads on Discord.

How to archive one of your threads on Discord

If you no longer need one of your threads on Discord, you can opt to archive them to clear the sidebar for everyone that checks the channel. When you archive a thread, you’ll remove it from the sidebar of the channel and hide it from plain view.

You can archive threads on the Discord app on your phone or computer. In our tutorials below, we’ll show you how to do it from both devices.

On your computer:

  1. Open the Discord web or desktop app and sign in to your account.
  2. Head to one of your servers, click “Active Threads” on the sidebar, and select the one you want to archive. You can check the sections below your channels and open a thread from there.

  3. Click the three dots icon on the top right side of the conversation and select “Archive Thread” from the menu.

Archiving a thread doesn’t delete it from the channel but hides the discussion from plain view. You can find them by using the Threads Discovery button located at the top of the channel.

Always remember that Discord automatically archives threads after some period of inactivity. However, the time depends on the countdown the creator chose when creating the discussion.

On the Discord mobile app:

  1. After signing in to your account, tap the hamburger icon on the top left corner of the current channel to open the menu.
  2. Go to one of your servers and browse the channels list.
  3. Tap and hold on to one of the threads under the channels until a menu appears on your screen.

  4. Tap the “Archive Settings” option on the menu.

  5. Select the “Archive Now” option to confirm your decision.

Like we mentioned earlier, Discord automatically archives your channels after some time of inactivity. As such, there’s no need for you to hide inactive discussions from your server manually every time.

To wrap it all up

Now that you know how to archive threads on Discord, you can hide the inactive or finished discussions from a channel on a server. If you ever need to check it in the future, you can use the Thread Discovery feature to find archived thread conversations.

If you don’t want to hide the thread on the channel, you can delete it instead. However, this option is irreversible, so there’s no way to recover lost data.
