How To Appear Offline In Discord
Last Updated: August 4, 2021
Do you want to browse your Discord servers while appearing offline from your friends and other users? Or do you want to use the app with some peace and quiet while without losing access to all its features? Either way, you’ll find our quick guide below useful. We’ll show you how to set your status to Invisible in Discord, making you appear as if you’re currently offline.
By default, Discord automatically changes your status depending on your activity on the app. However, you can always choose from the four options available or create a custom one that suits the situation.
For example, you can use the Invisible status to appear offline to other users on your servers and channels on the app. In this way, you can access and use all the features on Discord without worrying about replying to messages directed towards you.
In our guide below, we’ll show you how to update your status on Discord and manually set it to Invisible. Without further ado, let’s get started.
How to be Invisible on Discord
If you don’t want your friends and other server members to know that you’re online on Discord, you can change your status and set it to Invisible. In this way, you can still use the app’s features like messaging and browsing channels while appearing offline.
You can change your status to Invisible on Discord whether you’re using the app on your computer or mobile device. Follow our step-by-step tutorials below, and we’ll show you how to do it from both.
On your computer:
- Open the Discord desktop or web app and sign in to your account.
- Click your avatar at the bottom-left side of the screen.
- On the menu that appears, click Invisible.
That’s how you manually change your status to Invisible on Discord. Once you use this status, you won’t appear online on all your servers on the app. Also, the color of the circle beside your avatar changes to gray, appearing as if you’re really offline.
Please note that you can still reply to messages, chat on text channels, and talk to people on voice channels. However, doing so blows you cover of being offline, so you might want to change your status before doing one of these activities.
On your phone:
- Open the Discord mobile app and sign in to your account.
- Tap the three horizontal lines on the top-left side of your screen to open the menu.
- Tap your avatar on the bottom right to access User Settings.
- Tap Set Status and select Invisible once the options appear on your screen.
After updating your status on Discord, the changes reflect on your other devices where you use your account. As such, you don’t have to worry about accidentally going online when you open the app on your computer.
Aside from setting your status as Invisible in this way, you can also create a custom one and choose a duration for it. You can also add a short message to explain why you’re offline (even though you’re not) for a few hours or so.
To wrap it all up
While becoming Invisible in Discord makes you appear offline, it doesn’t prevent you from accessing and using all the features on the app. As such, you can browse your channels in peace without worrying about replying to tags and messages from other users.
Always remember that there’s no way for other users to check if you’re really offline on Discord or not. However, replying and reacting to text channels can give away that you’re using the app while being Invisible.
