How To Add Icons In Notion
Last Updated: July 13, 2021
Do you want to use an image or emoji as an icon to represent one of your pages in Notion? Or do you want to add one to make it easier for you to find it among your list of pages on the sidebar? Either way, we’re here to help you. In our guide below, we’ll show you how to add an icon to a page in your Notion workspace.
In Notion, users can add icons to their pages, whether it’s a database or not. This emoji or image shows up on the sidebar and above the page’s title when you open it.
Adding an icon to the page can give it a small touch of personalization and individualism on the platform. You can use it to briefly represent the contents or make it more noticeable on your sidebar alongside your other pages.
Whether you’re using the app for personal, team, or company use, you can add icons to your pages whenever you want. It’s one of the ways to customize your pages or showcase your brand and logo to the readers.
With that in mind, here’s our guide on how to add an icon in Notion.
How to add an icon to one of your pages in Notion
If you want a logo, emoji, or picture to represent your page in Notion, you can choose to add an icon to do so. In this way, it makes the page more memorable and easier to find among the other contents on your workspace.
You can add an icon to a page whether you’re using the Notion app on your computer or mobile device. In our quick tutorials below, we’ll show you how to do it on both, step-by-step.
On your computer:
- Launch the Notion desktop app or visit their web client and sign in to your account.
- Open one of your pages by clicking it on the sidebar on the left.
- Hover on the title of the page and click “Add icon” above it.
- Click on the default icon provided by Notion to change it.
- Choose whether to add an emoji, upload an image, or use an URL from the web.
That’s how you add an icon on the Notion desktop and web app. Alternatively, you can click the page’s title on the upper-left and change the icon from there.
If you’re having trouble picking an emoji as your icon, you click the Random until you find one you like.
On the mobile app:
As for those who primarily use Notion on their phones, you’ll need to use a template for the pages you created on the mobile app to add an icon. By default, creating a page on the mobile app creates a blank page without any icon.
- Tap the three horizontal lines on the top-left side of your screen to open the sidebar.
- Add a new page to your workspace and tap “Choose a template” at the bottom.
- Use the “Page with Icon” template.
- Tap the default icon provided by Notion to change it.
- Choose whether to add an emoji, upload an image, or use a URL from the web.
If you plan to upload an image as an icon for your page, the ideal size is 280 x 280 pixels. We recommend an equal ratio for the width and length to avoid any distortions on the icon.
To wrap it all up
Now that you know how to add an icon in Notion, you can go ahead and use any image or emoji you want. You can also use an URL to get one from the web directly, without downloading it first on your device.
While Notion doesn’t require you to add icons on all the pages on your workspace, it’s a good idea to do so. In this way, you get to personalize each one of them, and the images make the pages more noticeable on the sidebar.
