Are you using other apps aside from Slack on your work or business? Do you want to connect other third-party apps to your Slack workspace? If that’s the case, follow our quick guide below. We’ll show you how to install apps to your workspace on Slack.

Tutorial

Aside from messaging and sharing files to channels on Slack, you can also connect your other third-party apps to your workspace. In this way, you can access them from your channels and conversations on the app.

Once someone installs an app to your workspace, every member can access and use it any time they want. However, they’ll need an account to use the services of the connected app.

With that in mind, here’s our quick guide on how to add apps to your Slack workspace.

How to install an app on Slack

If your organization uses third-party apps for your work or business, you can connect them to your workspace to bring them all in one place. For example, you can integrate Zoom as the default call app or Google Calendar to see your schedules, invites, and events.

You can install apps to Slack from their web or desktop app. Check our quick step-by-step tutorial below, and we’ll show you how to do so.

On your computer:

  1. Open the Slack desktop or web app and sign in to your workspace.
  2. On the left sidebar, click More (three dots icon) and select Apps on the menu.

  3. Search for the app you want to install and click “Add.” This option opens the Slack app directory on your web browser.

  4. Click the “Add to Slack” button below the app’s icon.

  5. Complete the following steps like confirming your decision and authenticating the app to install and use it on your workspace.

After installing the app, you can use them on your channels and DMs whenever you want. All you have to do is click the lightning icon on the message field to access the Shortcuts menu and select the app you want to use from there.

Please note that the Slack free version only allows you to add up to 10 apps to your workspace. This limitation includes apps from the Slack directory or custom ones built for your team.

However, upgrading to any of the paid plans removes this restriction, allowing you to add all apps you want to your workspace. On the other hand, you can uninstall some of the apps to make room for new ones.

Lastly, everyone in your workspace can add an app by default. However, owners can turn on the app approval feature that requires the permission of an admin to install an app. If that’s the case for your workspace, you can request approval when you want to add an app to your team.

Connect third-party apps to your Slack workspace

Now that you know how to install apps to Slack, you can connect the ones you use to your workspace. Once installed, everyone can use the app once they sign in with their account.

Please note that you can use apps with premium services on Slack. However, you’ll need a subscription to their paid plans to use the app after adding it to your workspace.
