Last Updated: January 3, 2022
Do you want to hide your background during your video calls on Discord? Or do you want to use an image to your video feed to make your voice calls more fun? In any case, you can use the video background feature to add a custom image to your feed. In our quick guide below, we’ll show you how to use the background feature on your Discord account.
In Discord, people can opt to use their camera on voice channels to show their video feed to their friends on the server. However, there are times when people don’t want to use this feature to hide their messy background or room from people.
Thankfully, Discord added a new feature that allows users to add a background filter on their videos when using their camera. This allows people to turn on their camera while hiding anything that’s behind them from other users in the voice channel.
Here’s how to use backgrounds on Discord.
How to add video background on Discord
If you don’t want to show your room or whatever is behind you when using your camera on a voice channel, you use the video background feature on the app. In this way, there’s no need for you to disable your camera when catching up with your friends in a voice channel call.
You can use video backgrounds from your Settings or voice channel on the Discord desktop app. Follow our step-by-step tutorials, and we’ll show you how to do it from both.
Adding a default background for all videos:
- Open the Discord desktop app and sign in to your account.
- Click the gear icon on the bottom left part of the app to open your User Settings.
- Under the App Settings section, select Voice and Video.
- Scroll down the Video Settings section and select a background that you want to use. You can blur your background or select a pre-uploaded image.
You can check how the filter appears on your video feed by scrolling up and checking the preview of your video. Make sure to click Test Video to use and open your camera.
If you have a Nitro subscription, you can get and upload custom images you can use as a background. You can enable the preview video to check your feed every time you use your camera on voice channels.
Adding a video background when using your camera on a voice channel:
On the other hand, you can choose a background every time you use your camera on a voice channel. In this way, you can use different images on each of your calls.
- Go to one of your servers and join one of your voice channels.
- Click the Video option on the bottom left part of your screen.
- Select a video background and turn on your camera.
Like we mentioned earlier, you can create and use custom backgrounds on your videos when you have a Nitro subscription on Discord. On the other hand, you can select from one of the default images and use them as your background.
To wrap things up
Now that you know how to use video backgrounds on Discord, you can use your camera at all times when catching up with your friends on the app. You can hide your messy room with the help of the pre-uploaded photos you can use as a background on the app.
Always remember that having a Nitro subscription allows you to create a custom background you can use on all your videos on Discord.
