How To Access Ginger Island In Stardew Valley
Last Updated: September 14, 2021
Did you know that there is a second location you can visit OUTSIDE Stardew Valley? In this guide, we’ll show you everything you need to know on how to access Ginger Island.
Stardew Valley’s 1.5 update added a bunch of new content into the game. In fact, we think that these new additions just made the game even better. The biggest new arrival is the introduction of Ginger Island, an entirely new region in the Fern Islands archipelago.
What is Ginger Island?
Ginger Island is a new location introduced in the latest update to Stardew Valley. While the cutscene suggests the existence of nearby islands, we can only access and explore Ginger Island. The best thing about this new location is that it includes a new farm where you can plant all crops regardless of season. Think of it like another Greenhouse, but with extra features.
What can you do on Ginger Island?
The island is divided into four areas, Island South, Island North, Island East, and Island West. We understand that a huge part of the fun in a game like Stardew Valley is exploring and finding things out on your own so we wouldn’t divulge too much information on what you can do at Ginger Island. Instead, we’ll just show you a brief glimpse of the things you can do in all areas.
This is where you’ll land as soon as you reach Ginger Island. You can build a Beach Resort here so that other villagers from Stardew Valley can visit. You’ll also find the Pirate Cove southeast of this area which is where, you guessed it, Pirates often come to hang out.
Here you’ll find a hut where a feral boy named Leo and his talking parrot lives. They’ll be giving you certain hints in the game so be sure to talk to them. You’ll also find the Gem Birds in this area. These birds give you certain kinds of valuable gems like Aquamarine or Topaz.
In the northern side of Ginger Island, you’ll find the Island Trader, the Dig Site, and the Volcanic Dungeon. First up is the Island Trader does pretty much what you expect it does, you’ll find a variety of items you can buy or trade for exclusively at Ginger Island. Next is the Dig Site is similar to the quarry, where you can find Rocks and Nodes you can mine. Lastly, there’s the Volcanic Dungeon which operates like the Skull Cavern, except it has a few differences.
There are a lot of things you can do on this side of Ginger Island, but the most important thing is your Farm. Here is where your Farmhouse will be located. It will be dilapidated at first, but you’ll get to repair it. Inside you’ll find a kitchen and one bedroom. Your farm will also grow ANY kind of crops even if they’re out of season. Crows also won’t spawn on this farm so you can use that tillable area for something else instead of placing a Scarecrow on it.
Since the island is literally surrounded by one big body of water, it’s home to certain unique fishes you won’t catch anywhere else. Fish like Blue Discus, Flounder, Sea Cucumber, Stingray, and Octopus can all be caught in the fishing areas of Ginger Island.
How do you get to Ginger Island?
The million dollar question. With all this talk about what you can do on Ginger Island, we bet you’re rarin to go to this cool new location. Since this is classified as part of the post-game content, you won’t be able to immediately head to this new area if you just started the game. First, you must have completed all the Bundles at the Community Center or the Joja Community Development Form.
Afterwards, you’ll get a letter from Willy, Pelican Town’s very own fisherman, asking for your help in repairing his Boat. At the very least, it’ll take you about a year or two before you can reach this point in the game.
Behind Willy’s Fish Shop, you’ll find his boat. It’s pretty old but it still gets the job done. This boat will be your only mode of transportation to get to Ginger Island.
To repair it, you’ll need 5 Iridium Bar to fix the Anchor, 5 Battery Packs to fix the Ticket Machine, and 200 Hardwood to fix the Hull.
It sounds like a lot of work, but at this point you would probably have the means to get most of these items. Don’t worry, all your effort is worth it.
An Iridium Bar is made from 5 Iridium Ores and 1 Coal placed inside a Furnace. Hardwood is also pretty easy to come by since there are Large Tree Stumps in the Secret Woods that respawn everyday. Battery Packs are tricky as you’ll need to construct a Lightning Rod and hope that there’ll be a thunderstorm. If you want to know all the best ways to obtain Battery Packs and Hardwood, you can check out our in-depth guides here and here.
Once you have everything, the boat will be repaired and you can now go to Ginger Island. The boat will be available at Willy’s Fish Shop from 9 AM – 5 PM and each trip will cost you 1000g.
