Adding An Image In Google Sheets
Last Updated: October 2, 2021
If you thought that images could only be added to Google Docs or Slides, I’m here to tell you that it’s possible in Google Sheets too.
Well, this could be something new to you because many people only utilize Google Sheets to organize their data and keep track of information. Similar to how you add charts or graphs to Google Sheets, adding images can be as simple as that.
If you want to know how it’s done, here are the steps you have to follow.
1. Open Google Sheets then choose a spreadsheet to work on.
To begin adding an image on your sheet, go to Google Sheets’ website, then choose which specific spreadsheet you will edit.
2. From the menu bar, select “Insert.”
Google Sheets’ menu bar has many options, but you must select “Insert” to see a drop-down menu. This will provide you with several options that you can incorporate into your sheets.

3. Choose “Image” from the drop-down menu where you’ll be given two options: Image in cell and Image over cell.
Selecting “Image” from the menu options will give you two options on how the picture you will insert will look in your sheet.

Image in Cell
This option will fit the image in a specific cell and not eat up space in your sheets, but the downside is that it may seem too small for viewers—even yourself—making it difficult to see it correctly.

Image over cell
If you select this option, make sure you have enough space to spare in your spreadsheet because this will consume several cells. The number of cells may vary depending on the size of the image you’ll be adding.

4. Choose how you will upload the image.
After choosing how you want the image to be displayed, a new window will appear on your screen. From there, you have the option to upload an image directly from your computer, take a photo using the camera, by URL, Google Photos, Google Drive, and Google image search.
Make sure to click on the option that fits your needs.

5. Select an Image, then click “Insert.”
If you’ll be adding an image from Google Photos, carefully browse that folder and select the image you want to be added to your spreadsheet. Afterward, click the “Insert” button at the bottom-right side of the window.
Keep in mind that you can only insert a photo one at a time, so repeat the process if you wish to insert multiple images.

6. Wait for it to appear on your spreadsheet.
If you chose the “Image in Cell” option, the picture would fit just right in a specific cell, as shown in the image below. As you can see, it’s too small on a single cell, making it difficult to be visible. However, a method you can apply to adjust this would be to make the size of the cell bigger—but that would mean adjusting the size of the entire row and column.
On the other hand, choosing the “Image over cell” option will be large enough for you to see but eats up a lot of space and cover many cells in your sheet.

Additional Notes
Photos or images are a kind of reference we usually add to the files we make. Therefore, the addition of it to the document we’re creating in Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets helps make it more understandable for the readers.
Now that you’ve learned about adding images in Google Sheets, managing your data and making it as clear and detailed as possible will now be easier for you!
